Learn the science behind dōTERRA essential oils!

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are natural compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of many different plants.  When properly harvested, these essential oils are known for their powerful fragrance, as well as their potent healing qualities.  You probably have experienced essential oils without knowing that they were even there;  Like when you have enjoyed the scent of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, all of these smells are a result of the aromatic qualities of essential oils.

Try this at home: Squeeze the peel of a ripe orange. The fragrant residue on your hand is full of essential oils.

Scientifically, essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile aromatic compounds. Although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils.  Essential oils are very clean, they do not leave you feeling “oily”, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin.  The color, scent, and uses of essential oils cover a huge range and differ from plant to plant.

For centuries people have been using the healing qualities of essential oils to promote health and wellness, and today is no different.  Essential oils empower a family to be able to find health solutions without the harmful side effects that many modern drugs present.
